But Seriously…Bikinis?!?

So the other day, I got quite possibly the greatest idea I’ve ever had. I grabbed Joe, because as someone that seeks validation from others, all good ideas need to be approved by my husband. Thankfully he confirmed that this was the perfect idea for what was a rainy, and relatively nasty Sunday afternoon.

What is this great idea? A fashion show!

That’s right…I was going to put on a fashion show for my husband.

What was I modeling? This is where the story gets really fun.

Out of the darkest corner of my closet (actually they’re in a storage bin under my bed, but I’m going for dramatic effect here people), I pulled a plastic bin of all my bikinis that I’ve accumulated over the years. Mind you, none of these are maternity/bump friendly bikinis, but one by one, I tried them all on anyway. Down the runway (AKA: Bedroom ) I modeled ill fitting tops, bottoms too small, more side boob than one person should ever have, uni-boobs, under boob cleavage, plumbers crack and a whole host of other faux pas when it comes to sporting bikinis.

Needless to say, Joe and I laughed until we cried!

Why would I do such a thing? Aside from the fact that I have a few screws loose anyway, there really was a method to the madness.

As my pregnancy begins to wind down (less than 10 weeks to go), it was motivating to me to make sure I get back into good shape after I give birth…not only for my own health and well-being, but so I can make sure I am taking good care of myself to be around for my child and to promote healthy habits for her.

Next, it was nice to face some of my own insecurities with pregnancy weight gain head on – with the one person I know will love and support me no matter what.

Lastly, it was inspiring to see how much my body has changed to prepare for this baby. The whole experience of pregnancy and childbirth is truly, TRULY miraculous if you take the time to think about every little detail in its’ entirety. So with this little experiment, not only did I spend time in bikinis that were beyond too small, but I spent time appreciating what I, and my body (with a lot of help and answered prayers from the Big Man Upstairs) has accomplished.

It also got me really excited for summer and getting more bikinis – or bathing suits in general that will actually fit properly! So I started a shopping list of my must-haves for Spring Break, Summer, or just your everyday Sunday afternoon fashion show in your house. Either way, take a peek at all the pretties below!

Tragic day for sports, but great day for fashion.

Yes – both the Gators and the Wildcats lost today…which means I ate my sorrows away with a box of Mac & Cheese, but thankfully this lovely maternity maxi from PinkBlush will fit regardless of how many carbs and bowls of ice cream I consume!

It’ll also fit after the pregnancy which makes these salty losses just a little bit sweeter.

Now who on earth am I going to cheer for in the Final Four?!!?

I’m so excited about today’s post because the search for
stylish and budget friendly maternity clothes has finally commenced!!
Over the next two weeks or so, you’ll see me talk about a couple of companies I’ve
discovered that offer the cutest bump and budget friendly items, not to mention
they don’t look like potato sacks or muumuus. #HOLLA

If I didn’t have the world’s largest baby bump right now,
who would have guessed these jeans were maternity? Right?!! Can you believe
it?!
I picked these babies up from a lovely little store called PinkBlush.
Jeans are one of the hardest things for me to shop for because I am only 5’2’
and finding jeans (or pants in general) that work with my height usually ends
in frustration and headache. I was surprised to see that not only do these
jeans fit my beach ball belly, but also fit perfectly in the length!
And I
haven’t even gotten to the best part yet…
PinkBlush offers so many stylish items that are great for
transitioning throughout pregnancy, as well as transitioning after pregnancy
too. Yes, that’s right – I said AFTER pregnancy. No one ever thinks about being
excited to continue to wear maternity clothes after the baby arrives, but with
clothes this cute, why would you not?
Not pregnant? Don’t worry – they also offer non-maternity
clothes, and all sorts of fun accessories such as shoes, bag and jewelry!

Living in Chicago and being pregnant predominately during Fall and Winter has lead me to have to get a little more innovative with my fashion…like the trusty ole ‘fasten your pants with a hair tie” trick or the “just don’t fasten them at all and cover it with a top trick”. Thankfully I will no longer have to do either of those and can just live in these jeans for the remainder of the pregnancy.
T-Minus: 10 weeks and some odd days..but who’s counting?!

Blogger vs. WordPress

blogger vs. wordpress guide
If you’re reading this, and you saw my Instagram post last week, then
you’re probably looking around the site thinking “what the hell changed?!” To
which I would respond with – ya, nothing really. Sometimes I get these really
lofty goals in my head and without putting too much thought into it, I just
jump head first and figure things out as I go. That’s exactly how I started my
blog lol!
So last week, I thought it would be a really great idea to
move my blog from blogger, to a self-hosted WordPress site. I googled it and it
seemed simple enough…thus I just started with no regard to consequence,
time or money. What started as a to-do list of 8 simple things, that read
sensibly and seemed easy enough, turned into Alice (that’s me in this scenario)
wandering way too far down the rabbit hole with no cookies or drinks to help me
get back out. Somebody please wake me!
After spending $200+, reaching out to the customer support
teams of 3 different organizations (I’ll leave them anonymous since they were
so completely useless) and spending 6 days with my website down – I gave up.
And that says a lot, because if you know me, you know how stubborn I am and how
much I hate to admit defeat. For whatever reason, having my blog as a
self-hosted wordpress site simply would not work and no amount of people, much
smarter than me, could help figure things out.
So here I am – back to blogger! And frankly afraid to touch
anything on here right now for fear I’ll slip back down the rabbit hole. In the
coming weeks, I’ll probably update the theme and give it a nice spring
cleaning, but it probably won’t be until the memory of this 6 day headache
dulls away. In the meantime, if anyone has tips on transitioning from Blogger
to WordPress.org, or reasons why you might prefer one over the other – feel free
to share them below! I imagine if I got the wild hair to transition, that
someone else might as well – so maybe some of the comments can save someone a
lot of trouble!

Can you believe it’s March already? Idk if it’s pregnancy
brain, or what, but I feel like the past few months have just been a blur,
so when I look and see the calendar on March – I’m kinda thinking “where in the
heck did January and February go?!” Nevetheless, there are a few perks to the
fact that I slept walked right through the first two months of 2017.

First of all, that means we are that much closer to Spring
and Summer. Mother Nature has been teasing us here in Chicago over the last few
weeks. We will get a few days of really nice weather and then a few days of rainy,
colder temperatures. It’s making me quite antsy for permanent warm weather to
get here but ‘all good things come to those who wait” and thus I am waiting as
patiently as I can for the cool, brisk air to make its way out.
One of those recent beautiful days here in Chicago, Joe and
I did a little walking around our neighborhood (we live in Oak Park for those
familiar with Chicago/Chicago Suburbs) before doing a little bowling. Prior to
pregnancy, I was the world’s worst bowler…sure, it’s fun – but I was seriously
terrible. Something about this semi-permanent bowling ball stuffed up my shirt
has turned me into a pretty decent bowler now (which let’s be honest,
everything is more fun when you’re actually good at it).
Anyway, I’ve been keeping things in the wardrobe department a little
more casual than I normally would as of recent, but thankfully some good jeans
and a classic white top never really goes out of style. The real beauty of this
simplistic shirt and pant combo is that it can go with so many different
accessory combinations! For a while, I wore this outfit with these adorable Sam Edelman inspired heels (10% off with code JessicaLynna), but then I switched into these fun tennis shoes instead
– because let’s face it – I’m too pregnant to walk the country in high heels
right now! You could add any jewelry in the world to this look, switch an
infinite number of bags and clutches and wear any pair of shoes in your closet
and you’d still have a classic, timeless look that is both comfortable, and easy
to put together.

And isn’t that something we all want from time to time with
our outfits?!
