For those of you who haven’t been following along since the beginning of this blog (not that I could blame you!), you might not know that I was born and raised in the great state of Kentucky. I spent the first 22 years of my life there, and as such will always have a very special place in my heart for all things Kentucky, except maybe Kentucky Football lol.

Anyway, it’s that time of year…time for horse racing!! April and October is Keeneland (if you haven’t been to Keeneland – I highly recommend it!) and May is the good ole’ Kentucky Derby! Joe and I are big fans of horse racing in general, and we try to make it out to Arlington Race Track right outside of Chicago as often as we can. It’s kind of like my little piece of Kentucky here in the city (and frankly – there isn’t a lot of that around here lol).

So with the Derby in just a couple of weeks, how could I pass up on this cute little hat?! I love wearing hats…baseball caps, sun hats, fedoras, beanies – you name it and I’ll wear it. Not only do they make bad hair days a thing of the past, but you can wear less makeup (because I can’t put on a full face of makeup every single day ladies – and you shouldn’t either!! Give that skin a break!), plus sometimes hats can really pull an outfit together, you know what I mean?!

Aside from wearing this derby sporting hat, something about this dress reminds me of the derby as well. Maybe it’s the lovely shade of pink (perfectly bright and fun – it doesn’t get more derby than that!), but it kind of reminds me of a sports jersey or a jockey silk so for me it was a no brainer to pair these two together. Add in my little suede heels (I’m really running low on shoes that still fit these little porker feet) and I’m ready to place my bets on the horse with the best name…just kidding!

This past weekend, Joe and I drove up to my in-laws’ cottage on Lake Huron for some much needed R&R. Given we never really had a honeymoon because our wedding was practically planned in 30 days and everywhere we wanted to travel isn’t recommended for pregnant women due to Zika, we’ve just been playing it safe and have only traveled to places that aren’t really warm. Trust me on this one – my skin hasn’t seen warm weather or sun since last summer! Talk about pasty legs!

Well turns out, our drive up north ended up being absolutely beautiful, with lots of sunshine and temps hitting almost 80, which was just what the doctor ordered! We ended up getting to sit on the ‘beach’ (as a southern gal, I’ll never understand why northerners call the lake the ‘beach’) and I even got to stick my swollen cankles in the water!

Side Note: Just because it is warm outside does not mean that a massive body of water is also warm…almost immediately after I put my toes in the water, my feet went numb from the FREEZING cold water. But seriously, I have never in my life felt water that cold – and I even went to a titanic exhibit which allowed you to feel the temperature of the water from the night the ship sank. Nevertheless, the water was so cold, my cankles (ohh pregnancy swelling!!!) were long gone and I could tell the difference between my toes and the top of my foot again…frankly, it’s been a while since I saw my normal size feet, so I guess I shouldn’t complain lol.

Anyway, I’ve been wearing as many dresses as I can as of lately – dresses are just so much more simple for me to put on and style right now. Bonus: Maxi dresses are hiding a lot of my feet and ankle swelling and this little purple maxi is no exception! Plus, with the back cut out, it makes it a fun alternative to most maternity wear. Truthfully, it would make such a fun gender reveal dress (since blue (boy) and pink (girl) make purple! Read that post here). This isn’t actually a maternity dress, but with the flowing fabric, I knew it wouldn’t be an issue with fit as long as I sized up. I’m telling y’all, you need to check out Tobi. Especially with festival season going on. There are so many perfect dresses for this spring/summer season!

Life is just better with pretty dresses, warm weather and the beach. Am I right?!

I love outfits that are not only effortless, but still chic and comfortable all wrapped into one. It never fails (at least in my closet) that those outfits are far and few between unless you count the classic white tee and jeans look, which will always be a favorite of mine.

Anyway, this dress is the perfect trifecta of apparel.

It’s slouchy, but put together.

It’s comfortable, but looks expensive.

It’s effortless, but looks well thought out.

And stop it right now, but it’s offered in this gorgeous blush tone which let’s face it – is the most perfect color put on earth! But if you aren’t a fan of the pink hues, this dusty blue shade is practically just as perfect.

I told y’all…it only took pretty much my whole pregnancy, but I’m really starting to get the hang of dressing this baby bump now!

Per urban dictionary, the word bae is used by people on the internet who think it means baby, sweetie, etc.

For me, the word bae means the perfect maternity clothing brand. But for real, have you all checked out their website? I love sleek and modern maternity wear…sure some days I don’t want to get out of my pajamas, but if I did that for 9 months straight, I would seriously lose my mind.

With all the changes that go on with a woman’s hormones and body during pregnancy (read more about my crazy hormones here), it’s just unfair that a lot of maternity clothes can make a women feel less confident and even frumpy. That’s why I love companies like Bae that push the envelope with pregnancy friendly fashion and make you look sleek and sexy while toting around that new accessory (aka: baby bump). Case in point: this body hugging, supersoft midi dress!

Speaking of sexy, Joe told me I am a ‘new kind of sexy’ now that I’m 32 weeks pregnant. Not sure what that means, but he tried to elaborate by saying he now finds me ‘motherly sexy’…I pretty much just stopped his grave digging there. I am certain he meant this as a compliment, but I’m just way too hormonal, with selective hearing, so basically all I heard was ‘you’re not sexy anymore’. And then I cried.

Hahaha, poor Joe! I hope you all are having a better week then he is lol!

Y’all, it’s April! Can you believe it?? I’m not even sure
where time is flying off to, but I’m going to be a parent in 60 days, and
frankly – I’m starting to get scared sh*tless. Everything about pregnancy has
made me a hormonal crazy person. Seriously – I was just telling Joe that he
deserves a ‘push’ present for putting up with me!

Let’s face it, when I’m not annoyed with any and everything (because
any and everything pretty much annoys me right now), I’m crying because I
watched a tasty video on Facebook, or because I want to adopt ever animal on
planet earth. Or I’m laughing that April the Giraffe hasn’t had her baby yet,
and then I wander down this endless hole of ‘OMG,
what if my baby comes super late, or never..and I have to be pregnant forever?
Then I’m
laughing because I know how irrational that scenario is and then I’m furious
because I realize it’s been two hours since I snacked and all of the $200 worth of
groceries we just bought (that I wanted) are no longer what I want and we have
nothing in the house for me to eat. UGHHH!!!!
Do you see where I’m going with this? I’m basically
impossible right now.
The only thing not impossible lately is getting dressed,
because like I mentioned in this post, I’ve caved and given into maternity
wear, or I’ve just been getting bigger sizes of regular wear. This dress is not
maternity, but because of the flare skirt, it was a pretty safe bet that a
bigger size would accommodate this growing child (AKA: expanding belly). Even
mommas-to-be love a little flirty, fun spring dress, and Tobi has such a great
selection of trendy, and affordable dresses that you all are bound to find at
least one thing you love on their website. I didn’t just find one…I found five
lol!
And these shoes…don’t even get me started. I’ve been looking
for the perfect outfit (and weather) to wear these after I spotted them on Pink Peonies (who doesn’t love Rachel Parcell?!) and instantly ordered them, but
given the recent forecast of rain, rain and more rain, it’s been hard to find a
time to incorporate anything other than my pink Hunters. Until today!

Anyone want to take bets on whether or not I cry watching
the NCAA Men’s National Championship tonight?! But seriously… #PerksOfPregnancy
xoxo, Jessica
