50 Shades of Grey

Is it just me, but am I the only one loving all things grey right now?! And I am NOT talking about Christian Grey either. It’s my new favorite neutral, and a common color in my house as well 🙂 I consider myself pretty bright and colorful with my fashion choices (probably borderline circus), but occasionally and more so recently,  I’ve found myself gravitating toward muted, neutrals.
One of my favorite things about wearing neutrals is that any accessory it is paired with really POPS. So this beautiful blue, Marc Jacobs bag, or this classic, Perry Street Rocksbox necklace really get their 15 minutes of fame when paired with this grey on grey look. It’s perfect for Spring (gosh we are so close to Summer I can hardly stand it), and perfecctttt for a date night.
Joe loves when I wear more casual clothes – which is often a struggle for me, but relationships are all about a little give and take – right?! So Joe is kind enough to take all of my blog pictures (boyfriend of the year award goes to…) and I surprise him with some casual outfits that he’ll love, when we go on date nights! Win – Win!

Stripes and Spades

First the demise of C. Wonder, followed by the Kate Spade Saturday collection..what’s next – J. Crew?! (I can’t believe I would even put that kind of bad juju into this world!) I thought I was going to be sad. Lost. Scream and cry like my little puppy when he doesn’t get his way. Instead I am rejoicing! And saving money. Hooray!!
To be clear – I am not delighted at the actual closing of these stores, but rather I am scoring some of these brands on serious clearance, which in exchange delights my wallet…and probably Joe. 🙂 During a recent trip to Burlington Coat Factory (seriously love their home selections), I spotted some C. Wonder jewelry for pennies on the dollar. And the Kate Spade Saturday collection has been popping up in Nordstrom Rack stores over and over again! Case in point, this cute little number!
Stripes? Check! Poufy, full skirt? Check! Pockets? Double check! What more does a little dress need!!? I bought this pleated fit & flare dress over the weekend and couldn’t wait to wear it! For work purposes, I added this little button down underneath and some cute closed toed pumps and hi ho, hi ho, it’s off to work I go (cue the whistling).
Be sure to head to your nearest Nordstrom Rack and see what deals your eye can spy…or I’ll do you one better; just click on the links below and shop the deals online!
You’re welcome.

Holiday Weekend Recap!

Hi there!! So I know I haven’t posted in a few days, but to be honest I really wanted to spend time relaxing and enjoying the long weekend. Remember me telling y’all a few posts back that I was feeling more stressed than normal?! Well this weekend was the cure all!! A little sun, a little fun and some extra Zzzz’s and I am feeling 100% back to normal 🙂 So in exchange for my lack of posts, I wanted to clue y’all in on what I did this weekend!
There are a lot of things I miss about Kentucky (Family of course being numero uno), but going to Keeneland every April and October is definitely high on the list as well. If you don’t know what Keeneland is, just think the Kentucky Derby, on a smaller scale of course! I love getting all dolled up and heading to the tracks for a little horse racing and who knew I could experience something similar here in Chicago! On Friday we (“we” = myself, my better half and what I hope to be my future in laws – hint hint Joe!) went to Arlington Race Track for a little betting on the ponies. It was SO much fun! Being in the city and far from home can sometimes get a little overwhelming, so being at the tracks was almost like finding a little piece of home in this crazy chaotic city and I can’t wait to go back again and again! Especially once it’s warmer here. Oh, and it didn’t hurt that I won a little money too 🙂
Saturday was an absolute bee-u-t-ful day outside, and so we weren’t about to spend this day inside. We drove into the city and spent the day at the beach (which is not the same beach that us Southerners know and love, but close enough). A full day of sunshine, tanning, and a few drinks and I was on cloud nine! Perhaps I should have been more prepared with the sunscreen, as my hands were not too thrilled about the extra Vitamin D, but nevertheless, it was so nice to leave all my worries at home and just soak up the sun.
Sunday was the worst day of the weekend – of course Mother Nature had to throw in a little rain to damper the plans, but we made the best of it by doing a little shopping, which you will never hear me complain about! I didn’t buy a lot this weekend, but the couple items I did buy were mah-jor and I can’t wait to share them with y’all! Stay tuned 🙂
Then of course there was yesterday – which was filled with eating, napping and watching some sports. In that exact order…matter of fact – I stayed on the sofa so long yesterday that Joe and I ended up sleeping there all night too. Which come to find out this morning was not the wisest choice, but it was fun to switch things up.
Flash forward to today…it’s back to reality. Which means getting up early and back to work – ughhhh. But you know what else that means?! Back to posting on the blog! And I have some extra special outfits planned for the week so get excited!
What did you all do this weekend? Please tell me someone grilled out?!

Surprise Sale!

Call me girlie, but I heart Kate Spade. I wish she was my sister…or a friend…or even a 5th cousin twice removed. I just want to be…I mean know her. 🙂 I love her style aesthetic because it’s always classic, it’s always girlie and it’s always charming. The bows, the glitter, the pops of color…if you’ve been in a Kate Spade store, you know what I am talking about.
Now, add to all this girlie goodness, the surprise of waking up to an email from Ms. Spade herself (okay the email probably came from a marketing team….okay, probably an automated email – quit crushing my dreams!), with an invitation for the SURPRISE SALE!!!!! Up to 75% off bags, clothes, and accessories! Cue the little angel babies (I think they’re actually called cherubs) with their harps because this folks is what is known as girlie heaven!
So maybe you didn’t get the email, or maybe you need a second opinion, but either way I’ve listed all my favorites below. And as if you needed more incentive to start shopping, you better hurry because the sale ends tomorrow!

Chilly Weather = Sweatpants!

Just when I thought Chicago was rid of cold weather, Mother Nature shows her split personality and whips us back to reality with a day in the 40s. I am so envious of fashion bloggers who reside in warm weather, because frankly – taking pictures when it’s cold outside just stinks. Let’s face it, there are only so many coats in my closet (all of which have made previous appearances – some of my favs here and here). As much as I wish I had a new coat for every outfit, Chicago apartments do not allow for that kind of closet space, nor would my wallet support such an extravagant habit.
So for those of you who are anti-cold weather, for those of you who know how insane Chicago weather can be, and for those of you who ponder what bloggers look like when they aren’t all dressed up, this post is for you. A look at one of my favorite (and WARM) lounge outfits AND a little peek around our new home 🙂
Oh and wouldn’t you have it – we finally have air conditioner. Just in time to cool our apartment down for this hot…oh wait – it’s 40 degrees outside.
Dang it.
Are you lounging in your Pjs reading this blog?…that’s what I thought! What’s your go-to lounge look?
